Why are they called "Mom" jeans?

When my 15 year old daughter came home and said, "Mom, I want a pair of mom jeans", I was confused and intrigued. What were mom jeans and did this mom need a pair?? I immediately went looking for them and not only bought a pair for her, but tried them on myself. I was instantly transported back to my junior year of college, circa 1995! Apparently, everything comes back in style. Now, I'm wishing I didn't give away my fave pair of broken in Levi's I wore to almost every college party!

But you are probably asking: how do I wear mom jeans at "my" age and not look like a mom (or like I'm trying to be 20)?? The answer is ....pair this trendy, young(ish) denim with a sophisticated top, bag and shoes! The vintage "wedgie" (yes, that is the name of this style) Levis are from Anthropologie. I love this store because they truly have something for everyone! My black Club Monaco top (similar) is just cropped enough that it works perfectly with this high-waisted jean. Accessories - leopard block heels from Top Shop (in-store at Nordstrom) and my birthday gift to myself - a vintage Chanel bag from The RealReal. If you haven't checked out this site, you must!! Great luxury "pre-owned" finds - from handbags, shoes and clothes to jewelry and artwork!

Dressing up your Denim Skirt!

I love dressing up a casual look. Most of us designate items in our wardrobe as "casual", "dressy" or "save that for date night". I call that missed opportunities! There is nothing better and more unexpected that mashing up the two....a crazy gray area where a denim skirt and a blazer meet up! (and look fabulous!)

Vintage Levis in any form is on trend right now....mom jeans, jean shorts, and of course denim skirts! I found this skirt at Aritzia and I knew I had to have it for Spring/Summer. I am mindful of skirt length at the age of almost 43, so I went up two sizes to make sure it was "appropriate" (spoken like my 15 year old- who by the way is dying to borrow the skirt!). I paired it with my fave new Athleta tissue cotton tank top (have one in every color) and this cute ivory ruffle crop Top Shop blazer from Nordstrom. I LOVE this blazer. It can be paired with anything from a linen dress to black pants or jeans and a cute top.  You will wear the heck out of it -- I promise! Finally, accessories: wrap suede sandals from Jcrew and jewelry by my new fave, Summer Love Designs!

LWD - "Little White Dress"

There's nothing better than a cute white dress for Summer! I loved this one because of the eyelet detail AND because it was off the shoulder (still a huge trend). This dress is perfect for day or a casual evening. I'm counting down the days until my fanny hits the beach chair and my toes are in the sand -- and i can get rid of those tan lines :-) !!

This dress is from Shopbop and at a great price point--it is the kind of piece that you will wear repeatedly throughout the Summer. I loved these Jcrew wrap sandals the minute I saw them because I knew I would not only wear them with jeans and shorts, but also with casual dresses. Accessories - my new quay sunnies from Nordstrom - super fun and on sale! And all my jewelry is from Summer Love Designs - blog on this amazing jewelry line this Thursday! This look makes me ready for warm weather, a good tan, and the beach. Thankfully, it's all around the corner!

Let's Go Mets!

When I moved to NYC after college I immediately became a Mets fan. I did get some slack from a few friends who were die hard Yankee fans, but my loyalty never wavered. So, when this nice gentleman asked to be in my photo shoot, how could I say no?? Mets fans stick together!

On a recent shopping trip with my mom (aren't those the best?!), I found this super cute dress in Madewell. At the age of almost 43 (gasp!), this dress is age appropriate (cut outs are not too big), but still young and fun. I added a pop of color with navy wood platforms from Aldo (on super duper sale!) and jewelry from Summer Love Designs (check them out on instagram and stay tuned for a blog on them!). This is the perfect Summer dress and can be dressed up or down. Mix it up with an open toe sandal (cocktail party) or flip flops (beach party).

Brrrrr, Spring?

Even though Spring is officially here, it seems that we can't pack away all of our sweaters and boots quite yet. However, I can still find you some great new looks that will get you excited for the warmer temperatures in the near future!

I found these cargo joggers and white button down at Anthropologie. Both pieces are a bit casual, so I dressed up the look some fun shoes! My 12 year old daughter told me that every girl should own a pair of heels with red lips on them (and I agree!) Other accessories: necklace by Diamonds Doing Good and earrings from Perch Denver/Vail.

I also want to give a shout out to Geschardt Art and Design for the gorgeous art work shown in the above photo. Next month, I will be blogging about these amazing artists - so stay tuned!
