Overalls making a comeback!

I was very hesitant about the denim overall trend. I remember wearing them back in college, though a very baggie version of what is currently out there. But I thought I'd give the new version a shot and what I found out was that I LOVE them! The only challenge was making this "youngish" trend more "mature" for us ladies!

It did take me a while to find the right pair, but I did...at Madewell. They are fitted where they should be...and "looser" where I need them to be. To make the look more sophisticated I put a cream linen blazer (similar) over a Athleta tank top and the overalls and then slipped on my Steve Madden espadrilles. Jewelry - gold hoops from Anthropologie. You can also pair the overalls with converse sneakers and an oversized cardigan....there are many options! Definitely take a chance on this trend!

Can you wear jean shorts over the age of 40?

We are entering short season and I love a good pair of jean shorts. However, denim shorts keep getting shorter and shorter and I keep getting older and older! So, I went on a mission to find a great pair of denim shorts that were age appropriate, as well as other items that would make the look more sophisticated and less"hoochie"....lol.

This is what I found out....the first thing you have to do is buy the jean shorts two sizes up from your normal size. This makes the shorts hang lower and therefore a bit longer! I went with Levis denim shorts from Aritzia. To keep the look more sophisticated and age "appropriate", I paired the shorts with an oversized white linen blouse from Gap, a black belt (similar), and Dolce Vita flat sandals (similar). Accessories - my fave necklaces....one from Summer Love Designs....the other from Diamonds Doing Good. So, the answer is ...yes, you can definitely wear jean shorts over the age of 40 - it's just a modified version!

Bomber Jacket with a Twist....

The bomber jacket has been on trend for a while now, and I love them! They can be worn with anything from jeans to a dress, and come in so many great colors and styles!

I fell in love with this Anthropologie jacket not only for it's blush color, but for it's new take on the bomber jacket. This jacket is more like a blouse and ties in the front. It's super cute and very flattering. The navy cropped culottes are also from Anthropologie and are perfect for Spring and Summer. Accessories.....blush suede slides from Bloomingdales and a Carrie Dunham clutch!

Why are they called "Mom" jeans?

When my 15 year old daughter came home and said, "Mom, I want a pair of mom jeans", I was confused and intrigued. What were mom jeans and did this mom need a pair?? I immediately went looking for them and not only bought a pair for her, but tried them on myself. I was instantly transported back to my junior year of college, circa 1995! Apparently, everything comes back in style. Now, I'm wishing I didn't give away my fave pair of broken in Levi's I wore to almost every college party!

But you are probably asking: how do I wear mom jeans at "my" age and not look like a mom (or like I'm trying to be 20)?? The answer is ....pair this trendy, young(ish) denim with a sophisticated top, bag and shoes! The vintage "wedgie" (yes, that is the name of this style) Levis are from Anthropologie. I love this store because they truly have something for everyone! My black Club Monaco top (similar) is just cropped enough that it works perfectly with this high-waisted jean. Accessories - leopard block heels from Top Shop (in-store at Nordstrom) and my birthday gift to myself - a vintage Chanel bag from The RealReal. If you haven't checked out this site, you must!! Great luxury "pre-owned" finds - from handbags, shoes and clothes to jewelry and artwork!
